ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Belmont SWCD and JB Green Team are again participating in the Ohio River Sweep to be held on June 17 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Enjoy a morning on the river and have some fun while beautifying Belmont County. This year we will be having a scavenger hunt, to up the ante of trash collecting. Join the free Scavenger Hunt for Litter and see what strange things you can find.
Belmont SWCD will be at Powhatan Point, near the marina on First and Water Streets. JB Green Team will be at Pike Island Lock and Dam in Yorkville. Please wear clothes that can get wet and dirty as well as close-toed shoes. Bags and gloves will be provided. Registered volunteers will receive a free t-shirt. Unregistered volunteers are welcomed, but are not guaranteed a t-shirt. River Sweep is an event organized by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, (ORSANCO) an interstate water pollution agency for the Ohio River Valley, along with environmental protection and natural resource agencies from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. In 2016, 90 counties hosted 180 cleanup sites along the Ohio River and its tributaries.
