ST. CLAIRSVILLE — An investigation into a suspicious vehicle parked at a St. Clairsville business Saturday led to the discovery of more than $3,500 in counterfeit currency.
The counterfeit money, mostly in $20 bills, was concealed inside the console of the suspicious van after Belmont County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop near the St. Clairsville Sheetz gas station.
The occupants of the van reportedly gave deputies permission to search the vehicle.
Deputies arrested Myron Haskins Jr., 28, Toledo, for a parole violation. Haskins is reportedly on parole for similar crimes in northwestern Ohio.
A passenger in the van who was also on parole was questioned by deputies. He was later released without being arrested although charges are pending against both individuals.
The incident remained under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
