The Flushing Community will hold their annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 am. This year the parade theme will reflect the 200th anniversary of the village.
The Business Association is proud and honored to have Robert Howell serve as the 2013 Grand Marshall. Robert has spent his entire life as part of this community and is recognized as the chief historian, photographer, and story teller of Flushing.  Robert’s ancestors from the Howell side arrived and settled near Flushing in 1805.
Robert’s parents, Donald Howell and Anna Lyle Howell, both graduated from Flushing High School in 1918. Donald Howell was a partner in the Howell Store in Flushing for many years and also operated the farm as you enter Flushing where Robert and his wife still reside.
Robert graduated from Flushing High School in 1951 and for many years served as a school bus driver for many children in this area. Robert and Ellen continued to operate the family farm and be actively involved within the Flushing community.
Robert and Ellen Howell have four children with their youngest son, John, and his family, continuing the tradition of operating the family farm where they reside in the original large brick farm house as you enter the town.
We salute Robert and Ellen Howell and thank them for all they have done for Flushing, sharing it’s rich history and bringing to life its heritage.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, with line up after 10 a.m. in Schuler Park. The Business Association asks that all businesses and organizations become involved with this year’s parade. Entries, both large and small, are welcomed, and judging will be completed mid town as the parade passes through.
The festivities will include food served at the Masonic Lodge, as well as food, crafts, baked goods and the yearly auction in the firehouse.
The Flushing Area Ruritan will sponsor “Breakfast with Santa” at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
