The November meeting of the Belmont College Civil War Discussion Group will be Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. Those attending will meet in the lobby.
The topic for November will be the November 1863 federal expeditions against, Lewisburg, West Virginia and the Battle of Droop Mountain. The Battle of Droop Mountain was the last major battle fought in West Virginia and many of the soldiers on both sides were from West Virginia. While the battle was a tactical victory for the Union forces, it was a strategic victory for the Confederates who prevented Union forces from reaching and disrupting the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad.
