The First Christian Church of Barnesville is announcing the upcoming opening of 5 Loaves Food Ministry on Saturday, Oct. 27. The twice monthly food ministry, located in the basement of the church will serve the Barnesville Area School District.
The ministry named is based on scripture found in Matthew 14:19. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
The ministrys mission statement is, The mission of 5 Loaves Food Ministry is to model the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by providing food to the hungry and needy. It is our conviction that those who receive food will be strengthened both physically and spiritually. In all situations, the loving and compassionate character of Jesus is to be as much a part of our mission as the tangible food that we give!
After months of extensive remodeling in the basement of the church, the ministry is ready to open Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a free soup luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. in the New Life Center. In November, it will be open on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22 from 1-3 p.m., with a free Thanksgiving dinner beginning at noon in the New Life Center.
