Pastor Richard Cox, Pastor Andrew Woods and Bryana Bahmer are developing a Free Summer Lunch Program to be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday will be covered by not the Barnesville Area Ministerial Association (BAMA ) free lunch and swim at the park. The first lunch will be served on July 3 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Serving sites will include the First Presbyterian Church and The Haven (open for that hour only). In addition, volunteers will deliver meals to local apartment complexes.
Bahmer said Monday lunch will be added if needed. She said no child will be turned away and income qualifications are not necessary. Bahmer said the program may also benefit homes where older children are home with younger siblings during the day and are not allowed to use the stove.
Bahmer has created an informational Facebook page and has already had great response for volunteers, including a local Girl Scout Troop. She said some supplies and monetary donations to the account at WesBanco have already been donated as well.
Donations and volunteers are still needed. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the lunches, help pass out lunches, and clean-up.
Monetary donations are also needed. Lunch items needed are as follows :sack lunch bags, juice boxes, fruit snacks, fruit, bread, peanut butter, jelly, hot dogs, buns, cheese slices, small water bottles, granola bars, cracker snack packs, small boxes of raisins, plastic sandwich baggies, lunch meat, etc.
Barnesville takes pride in helping the community and each other in their time of need, Bahmer said. That is one of the many positives of living in a small town. If we all join together, we can help these children and nourish our growing youth.
