Members of Barnesville Junior Girl Scout Troop 5795 attended the Rock the Mall sing-a-long in Washington, D.C., June 7-10 to celebrate Girl Scouts 100th anniversary. On June 9 over 250,000 Girl Scouts, families and alumna attended the sing-a-long on the National Mall which lasted over four hours. The girls got to meet other Girl Scouts from all over the country and exchange SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) with them. Swaps are the tradition of Girl Scouts exchanging keepsakes with each other. Girl Scouts traveled from as far away as Japan and our girls met some from Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the highlights of the sing-a-long is that the girls in Troop 5795 were one of three Troops to be interviewed and they were on the CBS evening news.
In addition to the sing-a-long, the girls and their families also toured the White House, pentagon, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Fords Theater, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, and were able to see all of the memorials/monuments. Oh yes, and they rode the subway!
It was definitely a trip the Girl Scouts will remember forever. The Troop leaders are Amanda McEndree and Kim Crooks.
