Barnesville Middle Schools Cutting Class for a Cure was a tremendous success. Co-organizer Lori Witchey said the middle school was able to donate over $4, 000 to the 3 Cs Cancer Support Group. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in making this a walk to remember for our survivors and those who have lost their battle to cancer, she said.
We are amazed, said Middle School Principal Julie Erwin. We thank the community for coming to join us in our fight against cancer! We are overwhelmed by their generous contributions.
Witchey said, We would also like to thank The Times Leader, The Barnesville Enterprise, and Channel 7 News for the coverage of this event. It was greatly appreciated.
The event was held on Friday, May 4 to raise money for Barnesvilles 3 Cs cancer support group. For the past three years, the middle school has donated approximately $1,800 to assist local cancer patients and their families through what they called Coins for Cancer.
This year students were given the opportunity to walk laps at the school in honor/memory of family and friends affected by the disease. For each donation a student made, they could cut class and walk laps in the gym.
In addition, honor/memory declarations were available for $1 each and showcased in the school hallway. For each walk donation, participants had a chance to win a variety of door prizes donated by the Barnesville Education Association and various staff members.
