Dr. Carol Narkevic, a missionary doctor in Jamaica, was the guest of honor at a reception hosted by local Girl Scouts who recently held a carnival to raise money to aid Narkevic's work. Narkevic and her sister were both Girl Scouts. Scouts involved were from Daisy Troop 3069, Daisy Troop 5795, Brownie Troop 5780, Brownie Troop 5766; Junior Troop 4647, Junior Troop 5567, Junior/Cadette Troop 4634; Cadette Troop 5563 and Senior Troop 3152.

Barnesville Girl Scouts hosted a reception for Dr. Carol Narkevic on Tuesday, July 14 in the First United Methodist Church basement.

Scouts and others who donated to a recent carnival that raised money to help Dr. Narkevic care for her patients in rural Jamaica, were given the opportunity to meet Dr. Narkevic. She is a missionary doctor in Jamaica. Community members were also invited to meet Dr. Narkevic, who told the Scouts that she had been a Girl Scout, learning many valuable skills that she still uses in her work as a missionary doctor in Jamaica.

Dr. Narkevic answered questions about life in Jamaica and told the girls that they were very lucky to have parents who provided them with proper nutrition and to have the opportunity to be children. She said that life for rural Jamaicans is very difficult.

The Junior Women's Club is also planning to purchase a much needed water purification system for Dr. Narkevic's patients.

Girl Scout will also be collecting vitamins for children and adults to be sent to Dr. Narkevic through visiting relatives.
