The Buckeye Buckmasters Chapter recently hosted three 9/11 first responders at the club's lease/lodge located in Coshocton and Muskingum counties. The special deer hunts for the three US Coast Guard veterans took place in November and January. Ray Zuhowski from Toms River, New Jersey traveled to Ohio with fellow Coast Guard Veteran and Buckeye Buckmaster member Brendan Fitzpatrick. Ray, now a financial planner with Wells Fargo, sustained lung damage and also developed cancer as a result of his exposure to elements from serving as a first responder during the 9/11 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. Ray didn't connect with a deer on his bow hunt in November but he didn't return home empty handed. The Buckmasters club purchased a Traditions muzzleloader for Ray as a token of their appreciation for his selfless service in the line of duty.
In January during Ohio's late muzzleloader season, Chad Walder from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey returned to Ohio with Brendan in hopes of filling his tag unlike the previous year. Both Chad and Brendan braved the freezing cold conditions for four days and both gentlemen connected with their muzzleloaders that they, too received as gifts in past years from the Buckmasters club. Ray took a nice doe and Brendan harvested a beautiful 10 point buck featuring a droptine.
The Buckeye Buckmasters would like to say a big "Thank You" once again to Brendan, Ray and Chad for their service to our country and their help in bringing some resolve to the most tragic attack on America's homeland in recent history. Special hunts like these are made possible by the generous sportsmen and women of the Ohio Valley who support the BADF and attend the Buckeye Buckmaster's annual charity dinner banquet. This year's banquet will be held on September, 16, 2017 at the Barnesville Elks Lodge. For information on making a donation to the event or for tickets call Shane Skinner at 740-310-1677.
