Barnesville boys lose close contest to Buckeye Local

A standout performance by Kyle Michalo propelled visiting Buckeye Local High past the Barnesville High Shamrocks, 79-75 in Ohio Valley Athletic Conference consolation action on Wednesday night.

Michalo finished with a big 39 point outburst to pace the Panthers victory.

“Every time they needed a bucket he delivered,” Barnesville coach Chris Pack explained. “He would just drive the lane and get to the basket... He’s a nice player and more than we could handle tonight.”

A huge Buckeye Local front line of 6-7, 6-4 and 6-4 also caused problems for the Shamrocks according to Pack.

“We gave up way too many offensive rebounds tonight,” Pack said. “But they did a nice job of using their size advantage to hurt us on the offensive glass.”

Buckeye Local jumped in front by a 25-17 margin after the opening period, and the Œ’Rocks were never able to recover from the slow start.

Senior Brandon Burkhart and sophomore Issac McGee led a balanced Barnesville attack with 18 points each, with McGee connecting for a total of four, three pointers in the contest. Senior Dylan MacMillan added 15, junior David Stewart finished with 13 and junior Zach Houston hit double figures with 11 markers and pulled down five rebounds.

Barnesville finished, with 24 assists with MacMillan handing out seven and Stewart racking up six.

Breden Czuchran chipped in with 13 points for Buckeye Local, with John Rozenek and Tommy Hamilton each adding eight points.
