Lady Jets lose close game to Martins Ferry

MORRISTOWN — The Union Local Lady Jets fought hard Wednesday nigh, Feb. 6 at home against Buckeye 8 rival Martins Ferry, eventually losing by one point after being neck in neck for 32 minutes. The nail biter included eight deadlocks and 10 lead changes, before the Purple Rider’s Jessica Kinney put the visitors ahead 40-39 with a drive to the basket.

The Jets, who struggled to come from behind were hampered by four consecutive misfired free throws by the Jets.

Martins Ferry clung to the one point lead as the time ran out. Union Local made a foul and Ferry’s Megan Rose made three of her four shots in the final 36.1 seconds to give the Purple Riders a four-point lead.

The Jets didn’t give up. Union Local’s Cory Medley banked home a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final score. Medley, a junior, paced the Jets with 18 points. Senior Dallas Montag added 15 and classmate Kayla Doty had eight.

Union Local will move on to play Oak Glen in the consolation finals in New Manchester.
