MOUNDSVILLE, W.VA. — Barnesville High’s wrestlers lost a heart-breaking 37-36 decision to Monroe Central in Wednesday’s Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 3-A Dual Meet Championships at John Marshall High School.

A pair of Shamrock grapplers won contested bouts against their foes. Nick Fritter (285) earned a pin in 1:57 and Bradley Steadman (145) pinned his opponent in 5:06.

Barnesville’s Austin Singleton (113), Hobie Howiler (120), Mason Moore (126) and Logan Castello (195) all pocketed forfiet wins.

The Shamrocks rebounded in the third-place match, edging Tyler Consolidated (WV) 39-36. No results of that match were provided to the Jeffersonian.

River had bested Tyler by a lopsided 57-24 score in the other 3-A semi, then motored on to blast Monroe Central 48-19 in the finals.

The Class 5-A was an all West Virginia affair as Wheeling Park and John Marshall each picked up easy semi-final wins with Park dominating Morgantown 62-9 and John Marshall besting Brooke 39-21. Morgantown then topped Brooke 47-24 for third place while Park cruised to the title with a 45-22 win over J-M.

NEXT—Barnesville is idle until hosting the Division III Sectional, beginning on Friday, February 15.
