Lady ‘Rocks, pick up win on hardwood

BEALLSVILLE — Following a sloppy opening half, the visiting Barnesville Lady Shamrocks rallied in the fourth quarter to overcome a 29-15 deficit to force overtime, then out scored the host Beallsville Lady Blue Devils 9-6 in the extra frame to pick up their second straight win with a 45-42 victory.

Barnesville opened with a 6-0 shutout the opening frame, but Beallsville responded with a 13-1 scoring advantage the second round to provide the Lady Devils a 13-7 lead going to the locker room at the half. The hosts then added to the advantage the third stanza with a 16-8 edge to give the hosts what appeared to be the commanding 29-15 lead heading to the final eight minutes.

The Lady ’Rocks erupted for 21 points in the final quarter, while limiting Beallsville to just seven points to pull even at 36 and force the extra four-minute frame.

Barnesville (4-6) then out scored the Lady Blue Devils 9-6 in the overtime to escape with the 45-42 victory.

The Lady Shamrocks hit on 16-of-54 floor shots for 29.6 percent after shooting poorly the opening half. Barnesville tacked on just 9-of-21 from the foul line. Shaela Markovich paced the winners in scoring with 14 points followed by Marrissa Burga with 11, while Miranda Plumly and Raquel Bahmer chipped in with seven points each. The Lady ’Rocks hauled in 26 rebounds led by Markovich with seven, dished out 10 assist with Plumly handing out four and recorded 17 steals led by Sydney Ralston and Burga with three each. The visitors committed a whooping 35 turnovers and were whistled for 18 fouls.

Beallsville made just 13 field goals and added 15-of-29 from the charity stripe. Mikaela Headley paced the Lady ’Devils with 12 points with Katey Kinney adding 10 and Madison Stephen eight markers. Lane Bedford and Dicey Stewart chipped in with six points each.
