STEUBENVILLE, OHIO – The Lady Panthers stormed back from a 37-16 halftime deficit to nip Franciscan by the final score of 59-55. OUE utilized a frantic full court press in the second half that forced the Barons into 12 second half turnovers and changed the momentum of the game. The Lady Panthers took their first lead of the game at 57-55 with 48 seconds left as Beallsville freshman Julie Bilyeu powered up an offensive board. Franciscan’s Lacey Huck missed a 15 footer on the next possession and Alex Kuhn, the sophomore guard from Monroe Central, grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 15 ticks left. Kuhn calmly swished the ensuing free throws for the final points of the game.
OUE was led by Bilyeu with 17 points, which included a 9-10 showing at the charity stripe and 12 boards. Kuhn totaled 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Shadyside’s Kelsey Holloway added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
Huck led the Lady Barons with 31 points and a Franciscan record of 26 rebounds.
OUE outscored Franciscan 43-18 in the second half to improve to 1-1 on the season. Franciscan fell to 1-1.
