Meadowbrook High’s Erin Smith and coach Jill Beskid and Barnesville coach Nikki McEndree were among the top honorees on the District 12 Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star Team for 2012.
Smith, a 5-4 senior libero for the Lady Colts, was named “Player of the Year” in Division I/II.
Beskid, who served as interim head coach for Meadowbrook with Kelly Zehnder on maternity leave, gained “Coach of the Year” laurels in Division I/II while Barnesville’s McEndree was “Co-Coach of the Year” in Division IV with Frontier’s Donna Hurphy.
The other “Player of the Year” selections included senior Dylana McKenzie of West Muskingum in Divison III and senior Kelsie Rinard of Frontier in Division IV. The other “Coach of the Year” was Brent McLoughlin of West M in Division III.
In addition to Smith, other first team picks from the local area included senior Mallory Taylor of Cambridge and junior Taylour Fatheree of John Glenn.
Named to the second team were senior Karli Tellep of Meadowbrook, senior Brianna Harbin of Cambridge and junior Haley Gregory of John Glenn.
In Division III, first team picks locally included senior Lynsey Beros and junior Kelsey Beros of Buckeye Trail and senior Morgan Diehl of Shenandoah.
Sophomore Kylee Kasper of Shenandoah was a second team pick in D-III.
In Division IV, Barnesville seniors Paige Gibbons and Madison Stephen of Barnesville and senior Marla Border of Caldwell gained first team recognition and Barnesville senior Marrissa Burga was a second team pick.
District 12 also announced the participants for the annual Senior All-Star Match which will take place Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. at Meadowbrook High School.
