Girls’ basketball teams throughout the Eastern District learned who and when they’ll open tournament play when sectional tournament drawings took place Sunday afternoon.
In the Division II Sectional at Tri-Valley, West Holmes (15-3) captured the No. 1 seed and Maysville (15-3) was selected as the No. 2 seed.
Three local teams are in the field at Tri-Valley. No. 7 seed John Glenn (6-12) plays No. 5 seed Morgan (9-9) on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.; No. 8 seed Cambridge (4-14) will face familiar foe West Holmes in its opening game on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m.; and No. 9 seed Meadowbrook (2-14) takes on No. 2 seed Maysville (15-3) on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.
The Cambridge-West Holmes winner plays the Philo-River View winner on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. while the Maysville-Meadowbrook winner takes on the Dover-John Glenn-Morgan survivor on Friday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
In the Division II Sectional at Ohio University Eastern, Edison (16-2) was awarded the No. 1 seed while Tri-Valley (14-4) gained the No. 2 seed.
With the tournament realignment, none of the local teams are in this sectional.
In the Division III Sectional at Dover, Ridgewood (13-5) and Harrison Central (13-5) earned the top two seeds.
Buckeye Trail (7-12) was the No. 5 seed and will play the tournament’s opening game against No. 8 seed Indian Valley (2-16) on Monday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
Newcomerstown (8-9) gained the No. 4 seed at Dover and will take on No. 2 seed Harrison Central on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.
The Trail-Indian Valley winner place No. 3 seed Tuscarawas Valley on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. and then that winner will take on the Newcomerstown-Harrison Central survivor in the sectional co-finals on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.
In the Division III Sectional at Cambridge, Fort Frye (16-2) took the No. 1 seed while West Muskingum (14-4) was the No. 2 seed.
Shenandoah (11-7), the No. 6 seed, will take on West Muskingum on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m., with the winner playing the Monroe Central-Martins Ferry victor on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the sectional co-final.
In the Division IV Sectional at Union Local, the top seeds were Shadyside (16-2) and Beallsville (15-3).
Local squads Caldwell (4-16), the No. 7 seed, and Barnesville (3-15), the No. 8 seed, will play on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., with the winner to play the Shadyside-Frontier winner in the sectional co-finals on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
In the Division IV Sectional at Claymont, Hiland (10-6) picked up the No. 1 seed and Garaway (14-3) gained the No. 2 seed.
No local teams are in this sectional.
