Friends of Barkcamp July 4th event

The Friends of Barkcamp 4th of July event will take place on Saturday, July 8 from 4-7 p.m. at the barn area. Hotdogs will be provided and there will be a meet and greet. Campers are asked to bring a covered dish. Pop, water and juice will be provided for $1 each. Kids crafts will be available for $2 each. There will be a snake demonstration and spoon making by The Kilted Crafter. Basket Bingo will be $10 for 10 games. The evening will end with a movie, "The Secret Life of Pets."

Watt Center open July 8

The Watt Center for History and the Arts will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tours, Saturday, July 8 before the Barnesville Depot Centennial Celebration program.

Located in the former offices of Watt Car and Wheel Company, visitors may view history displays including a new exhibit profiling Barnesville-born inventor Elisha Gray who lost a legal patent case against Alexander Graham Bell for the invention of the telephone. The Gray display was created by the late Jack English of Tacoma who was instrumental in the induction of Gray into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2007. Admission to the Watt Center is free.

Adult swim laps at pool

The Barnesville Park Pool will be offering adult lap swims every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer. Adults may also walk laps. Swims will be from 6-8 in the evening. These are for adults only. No children will be permitted. For the cost and other information, please call the pool at 425-1172.

BAMA free swim every Wednesday

The Summer Swim Program, sponsored by the Barnesville Area Ministerial Association, will be held every Wednesday through August from 11 a.m.-noon at Barnesville Memorial Park. The program is for all ages and includes a devotional and snack, as well as the free swim.

Blood pressure, glucose checks

Barnesville Fire and EMS will be offering a FREE blood pressure/glucose check for anyone in our local coverage area.

The checks will be offered at the fire station on the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
