Conservation Field Days to begin in June

Belmont SWCD is providing an eight week summer program that will be held on Fridays from June 16 to August 5 for ages 10-18. The program will consist of outdoor workshops on dendrology, impacts on forests, wildlife, water, soil quality, and biodiversity.

This year's agenda will include water quality testing, macroinvertebrate id, capturing wildlife through photography, acid mine drainage, news station, canoeing, equipment operation and safety, survival class, tree id and management, backyard chickens, falconry, Dairy Farmers of America, brambles and blueberries, and Carnegie Science Center. This program will also provide id books and a T-shirt.

Belmont SWCD will be holding a meeting about the program for the parents and children on May 22, 2017 from 6-7 p.m. at 101 N. Market St. St. Clairsville, OH 43950. At this meeting we will discuss the events planned and cost that would be involved in the program. RSVP by May 22 to Belmont SWCD at (740) 526-0027. Space is limited.

The application period is open until June 16, 2017 and all applications can be mailed or dropped off at 130 West Main Street St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950. In order to obtain an application, contact the office to receive one.

Belmont SWCD will award two scholarships that will cover the program fee. These scholarships require a 500 word essay. Additional information will be provided at the meeting. If you have any questions or need more information, contact Liza Butler, Wildlife/Forestry Specialist, at (740) 526-0027.
