Community Cleanups scheduled

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The JB Green Team has announced the 2017 schedule for the Belmont County Community Clean-up collections.

Community Clean-ups are sponsored by the JB Green Team in coordination with the Belmont County Township Trustees. All Community Clean-up collections are held on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Residents of both Belmont and Jefferson counties are welcome to participate in any scheduled collection.

Residents are welcome to bring old household junk, appliances, fixtures, furniture, lawn furniture and equipment, riding and climbing toys, carpeting, car batteries, household batteries, foam packing, mirrors, dishes, glassware, plastic buckets, trash cans, etc. Residents are asked to bag or box all loose items to help everyone proceed through the line in a timely manner.

Tire recycling is provided for off-rim standard size car and light truck tires only. No semi-truck, agricultural or industrial equipment tires. Residents are asked to avoid heavy accumulations of water or dirt as it can seriously damage tire shredding equipment.

Electronics recycling is provided for computers, cell phones, printers, key boards, game consoles, VCR/DVD players, flat screen and older CRT televisions, monitors, etc. Electronic recyclers ask that television and monitor glass screens remain unbroken.

All acceptable items may be dropped off at no cost. The following items will NOT be accepted at collections: NO mattress or box springs; NO paints, liquids, fluorescent tubes, ballasts, insulation or other hazardous waste materials. Please watch the JB Green Team website for the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection dates and locations.

Other items NOT accepted at the community collections include: diapers, food waste, household garbage, leaves, tree or grass cuttings, construction and demolition materials including insulation, bricks and cement blocks. The JB Green Team reserves the right to refuse unacceptable items.

Community cleanups take place during the national Keep America Beautiful - Great American Cleanup. If you are interested in cleaning a road or other location, please contact the JB Green Team for trash bags and a T-shirt. Collected litter can be brought to the Community Cleanups for proper disposal.
