BETHESDA - When State Farm Insurance agent George Lendon retired last year, he placed his agency in the hands of someone who knows the community and comes with a family history in the insurance business.
Bethesda native Amy Latham took over the agency January 1st, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, William Skaggs, who operated an insurance agency in Barnesville for many years.
Latham held a management position with Verizon Wireless before she decided to become a State Farm Agent. Following months of intensive training, she is now owner/agent of the Latham State Farm Agency in Bethesda.
I enjoy helping people and am looking forward to providing excellent products and services as a State Farm Agent, Latham said.
State Farm offers auto, home, and life insurance and bank and financial services. Free quotes are available.
Our bank services include vehicle loans, checking, savings, credit cards and money market accounts, Latham said. She noted that State Farm also offers Individual Retirement Accounts, 401K rollovers and a college savings account. A student credit card that helps college students build credit is another financial service provided.
Helping Latham provide customers with insurance and financial products are three licensed agents. They are Mary Owens, who has 35 years of experience, and Edie Schultz, who has 18 years of experience. Owens and Schultz worked with the Lendon agency. Michael Hawk is the third agent. Cheryl Harris, office manager and marketing specialist, completes the team.
Expanded hours are a new feature of the Latham State Farm Agency where customers can conduct business on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Office hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
An open house will be held at the Latham State Farm Agency on Friday, Feb. 8. Existing customers and the public are invited to stop by between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Latham is a Union Local High School graduate. She and her husband, Brian, reside in Bethesda with their daughter, Abbey.
