Delivery will be between Feb. 26 and March 6. Barnesville Service Unit consists of scouts in Barnesville and Beallsville areas and are part of the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council with the main headquarters in Charleston, W.Va.

Each girl scout council decides when the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program will take place. Most sales are during January, February and March. The decision is based on criteria such as United Way annual campaign dates, holiday seasons and registration times. The volunteer board of directors of each council decides the price of cookies and the amount of proceeds troops receive. Councils detrimentally vary in size to the number of girls served. Council budget needs vary in size as well. Because the needs of individual councils differ so do prices.

There are two manufacturers licensed by Girl Scouts of the USA to sell cookies to Girl Scout Councils. Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers. For 2012 Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council have once again selected Little Brownie Bakers as the supplier.

In 24 hours Little Brownie Bakers produces 1/2 million pounds of cookies, uses 875,000 pounds of flour and 650,000 pounds of sugar per week. Also in a week 145,000 pounds of peanut butter is used, with Little Brownie Bakers baking over a billion of cookies.

Cookies available to order are: new this year, the Savannah Smiles, developed to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts is a bite size lemon wedge cookie; Trefoil (shortbread cookie); Do Si Do (oatmeal cookie with peanut butter filling); Samoas (vanilla cookie covered with caramel, rolled in coconut and drizzled in chocolate); Dulce Deleche (bite sized cookie rich with milk caramel chips); Thank U Berry Much (crispy cookie with cranberries and white chocolate chips); Tagalongs (cookie with peanut butter covered in chocolate); and Thin Mint (wafer cookie covered in chocolate made with pure peppermint).
