47th annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Sept. 23-26, 2010
The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, held annually the last full weekend in September, officially opens its 47th annual event on Thursday, Sept. 23 and continues through Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010.
The festival is a venue for musical entertainment, home-cooked foods, harvest-inspired arts and crafts, contests, concessions and rides plus a display of large pumpkins and produce.
Entries for the King Pumpkin contest will be accepted Wednesday, September 22, from 6-9 p.m. Last year's King Pumpkin weighed in at 1,503 pounds.
The Giant Pumpkin Parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, rain or shine. For parade entry information, please visit the Web site. On Sunday, an antique and classic car show will be held at the Barnesville High School.
This year's entertainment highlights feature Miss Ohio, Buck 'n Wing Band, Katie Orlofski, Voices of Ohio, Lacy & Her Attitude Band, One-a-Chord and many more. In addition to the Royalty and King Pumpkin competition, other contests include pumpkin pie baking; talent show; mascot, pumpkin roll; fiddle, banjo and mandolin; fudge; hog calling; tall tales; beard & mustache; tobacco spitting; 5K Run/Walk and horseshoes.
Admission to the festival is free.
