Back to School By Way of the Pool draws crowd The Barnesville Title 1 Department and Barnesville PTO joined with 20 other community groups to cheer the children on Barnesville on their way back to the classroom. Approximately 400 Barnesville Pre -K-8 grade students and their families came to the Barnesville Park Pool to celebrate the opening of the 2010-2011 school year. "I was thrilled with the turn-out, said Title 1 Coordinator Bobbi Jo Johnson. " Not only did we have more students than last year, we doubled our community groups that brought school items and information to our students and their families." Community groups that joined the students at the pool were: Barnesville Community Foundation, Barnesville Hutton Library, Wesbanco, Barnesville Hospital, State Support Region 12, Girl Scouts, Ohio Hill Health group, Verisource, Molina, CareSource, Barnesville Mother's Club, Barnesville Health Care Center, B.A.Y.S., Destination Imagination, The Haven, The Belmont County Health Department, Barnesville Methodist Women and the Barnesville Title 1 department. "The Barnesville Community Foundation donated funds that allowed us to purchase tote bags for all the students," said Johnson. "The bags became the focus of the evening allowing the students to move around the pool and gather their items from the groups." The group enjoyed hot dogs that were cooked by Barnesville Police Officer Joe Thornton. The students will return to class on Thursday August 19 after one last dip in the pool!
