Trail 'Buddy'

Cathryn Stanley / Editor Published:

Dale Johnson of Barnesville and his three-year-old dog Buddy, were out on Railroad Street Friday enjoying Barnesville's proposed Rails to Trails route.

Johnson, who began exercising last year by walking and using one of his five bicycles, such as this recumbent bike, has lost 30 pounds so far. He logs five miles per day -- seven to eight on the weekends -- for a total of 40 miles a week.

Johnson said Buddy rides on the back of the recumbent bike and many people using the trails in Guernsey County and Wheeling, ask to take his picture. He said the Guernsey County portion of the trail from Lore City to Cambridge is very lovely and used by many. Johnson said he recently met an 84-year-old woman walking the trail with the help of a walker.

"It is a very nice trail with wetlands and picnic tables," Johnson said. He wishes more people, especially younger ones, would use the trail.

Johnson has also used the trail from Nelsonville to Athens.
