Barnesville Curves open and doing well

In the past week, five area Curves owned and operated by Gregg Boury Inc. closed. This has had no impact on Barnesville Curves which is owned and operated by Lynda Mayberry.

"During these economic times, we find that women are using the facility even more," Mayberry said. "Having a place to 'escape' is just what the doctor has ordered (literally)."

"With obesity at epidemic proportions, exercising is so important. Most women can find 30 minutes to exercise and can burn up to 500 calories during that time," she said.

Curves in Barnesville has been opened for 6 1/2 years.

"We still have original members who joined opening day, as well as those who have worked out over 1,000 times (see their window downtown)." Curves of Barnesville offers free weight management classes and will offer yoga in March.

They also support "silver sneaker" members who receive their workouts at no cost.

"Women love the support they get at Curves both mental and physical," she said.

Mayberry said the Barnesville location will welcome any members from the closing clubs with no sign up fee and will continue to help them achieve their goals.
