Alternative Home Health is planning a seminar on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 1 p.m. concerning the latest advances in joint replacement. The program is free and open to the public, according to Sheila Smith, CEO.
Dr. John Michalski MD, who is a board-certified and US Navy decorated orthopedic surgeon and has an office at East Ohio Regional Hospital, will present the information. The program will be held at the offices of Alternative Home Health located at the Giffin Park Church, 280 E. Main Street, St. Clairsville, OH. The presentation is to raise awareness of joint replacement & preservation treatment and what patients should expect when getting the surgery. Dr. Michalski is on the forefront of joint replacement surgery and will discuss minimal incision surgery with improved pain lessening techniques. Smaller incisions, combined with less pain, provide more positive outcomes resulting in faster recovery. This promotes lower infection rates.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America, as well as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the International Congress of Joint Reconstruction.
He is on the forefront of pain control and improving outcomes. No other surgeon in the tri-state area provides advanced pain control techniques and cutting edge technology.
Additionally, Dr. Michalski performs patient matched and computer assisted knee replacements at East Ohio Regional Hospital. He focuses on improved mobility and outcomes by precise cuts using patient matched MRI technology during surgery. No other surgeon in the area has this level of expertise and training, especially with the Journey 2 “30 year” Smith and Nephew knee replacement.
Dr. Michalski is also one of the orthopedic surgeons in the nation qualified and trained to do direct anterior hip replacement surgery with the Smith and Nephew Hip with “30 year” technology. This type of surgery is muscle sparing to preserve more of the patient’s own tissue, versus the older lateral and posterior muscle damaging procedures done by others.
Dr. Michalski is also certified on Biomet Oxford Advanced Unicompartmental knee replacement training to help those patients who need only a partial knee replacement, according to Smith.
He also has certification and special training in arthroscopy, joint reconstruction, shoulder replacements, custom and partial knee replacements, as well as joint preservation, rotator cuff repair, and less invasive carpal tunnel release. He provides advanced fracture care with training on injuries to the tendons, muscles, ligaments, and bones.
A fantastic new addition of laser therapy has been added at Michalski Orthopedic center. We are proud to offer the first orthopedic non-invasive, in-office laser treatments for pain, swelling, and inflammation in the entire area. We are now able to speed up healing after sprains, strains, injuries, and postop pain. Arthritis pain can now be managed more conservatively at Michalski Orthopedic Center as well.
Michalski states, “We at Michalski Orthopedic Center focus on the best musculoskeletal care WITH LESS PAIN for our patients. We focus on improved results with increased technology and quality patient care. We do our minimal invasive surgeries in the hi-tech, patient-friendly operating rooms at East Ohio Regional Hospital as well as our BRAND NEW outpatient Compassionate Care Center for Surgical Excellence. Our minimally invasive sports and joint replacement program employs centrifuged platelet spray to encourage improved healing, as well as computer-assisted navigation to help make more precise cuts for surgery.
“I use nerve block anesthesia, cutting edge joint injection techniques, and joint “pain cocktails” to lessen pain. Our orthopedic nursing unit has successfully and compassionately rehabilitated thousands of joint reconstruction patients-including knee, hip and shoulder. East Ohio and Compassionate Care Center for Surgical Excellence operating room and orthopedic nursing unit staffs are among the best in the nation. The Ohio Valley is also lucky to have such a fantastic home health care agency as Alternative Home Health,” says Dr. Michalski.
Dr. Michalski states it is important for people to realize that they do not have to have serious joint problems to attend the seminar. The presentation will be full of information that could be helpful to everyone.
Alternative Home Health provides home care to Medicare and Health Plan beneficiaries as well as many other private insurance companies after surgery. This care includes physical therapy, occupational therapy and skilled nursing. This continuum of health care at home enhances the patient’s outcomes and mobility.
