The Belmont County Historical Society invites you to take a visit into the Victorian past by joining us on Sunday, Aug. 15 from 2- 6 p.m. for a Victorian Family Fun Day. The events for the day include the first annual Summer Croquet Invitational, a Victorian Ice Cream Social and a Cake Walk at the Gazebo. All events will be held at the Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum , 532 N. Chestnut Street , Barnesville , Ohio .
Croquet came to the United States in the 1860's and took hold almost immediately. It was only surpassed by tennis and golf in the years before World War I. Several Barnesville churches have indicated they will compete for the Mansion Museum 's traveling "Golden Croquet Ball Trophy" to be awarded to the team that finishes first. Participation ribbons will be given to all team members. The Croquet Invitational is open to all who wish to participate.
Visitors will be able to tour the Mansion Museum with its displays of Victorian family life: antique heirloom items from Grandma's Attic, needlework and china painting, nature collections and floral arrangements. Regular admission fees apply.
Please join us for afternoon of fun, enjoy a 50 cent hot dog, a 50 cent dish of ice cream, a 10 cent drink and experience a summer afternoon before America had shopping malls, microwave ovens, phones that take pictures and cable television. For questions please contact Vicki at 740 757-2226 or Emery at 740 425-1112.
