The final program of the 27th season of SHOWCASE 2010 Concert Series in Barnesville is coming up on Thursday, Aug. 5 with an 8 p.m. show at Community Arts Place by Roz and Lynn from Dillonvale.
They are a mother-daughter act who will delight the Showcase audience with classic oldies/variety music.
Starting at 6:45 p.m., there will be a preconcert warm-up show featuring classic country music by Howdy & Verla Grant of Jewett. Also at 6:45 p.m. there will an art exhibit by the Grimes family of Barnesville.
Ginny's Softball Team will be serving food and refreshments from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Those coming to the musical program should bring their own lawn chairs. In case of rain, events will be moved indoors to the Grange Hall on Shamrock Drive. Donations are appreciated and parking is free.
Roz and Lynn will take listeners on a trip down memory lane to the sentimental past. You will remember your first date with your sweetheart as romantic love songs come alive with their beautiful solos and duets. Fast food was a new thing then and life was cool at drive-in movies. Ponytails and poodle skirts were the fashion of the day along with rock n' rollin' in bobby socks and saddle shoes to sons playing on the jukebox.
The duo has performed at festivals, weddings, gospel events, parties and numerous other celebrations in the Ohio Valley. They are members of the Ohio Festivals and Events Association.
Last Thursday's big band and polka concert by 5D's Plus was well received by their audience who enjoyed a lovely evening of clear skies. The concert committee is glad to report that the weather has been wonderful for all the season programs so far this summer.
Adam Roe with some help from his wife, Carman, entertained during the warm-up hour as they got the audience involved with sing-a-longs and some special dances. Recent 2010 graduates, Carly Starr, Rebecca Lowry and Matt Smith, displayed with excellent pottery creations. Featured poets were Virginia Bell and Nancy Toto.
At the conclusion of the concert, floral gifts, courtesy of Blossoms of Barnesville, were won by Lenora LaFever and Helen Grissom, both of Quaker City and Elaine Thompson of Brinkhaven. The Arts Refreshment Committee presided over the food stand.
