The poetry of Barnesville resident, Steve "Easy" Whitacre will be featured in this Thursday's third program of the SHOWCASE 2017 Summer Concert Series, July 6 at 7 p.m. The New Silver Eagle Band from Weirton, W.Va. will entertain the audience with a music variety show at Community Arts Place on Colonel Drive in Barnesville.

Whitacre, who says he was "born-n-raised" in Barnesville, started doing poems when he was seven years old and he thought they were about words that rhymed. When he grew older, he realized that poetry was more about meaningful words and thought. While he was in high school, he had read most every book in the library, but especially like the literary works of the old masters.

He enjoys traveling, writing, creating music, art (both digital and paint), learning and exploring new cultures, and so much more. He is a very spiritual person, closely in tune with that within that connects us all to everything. He was a member in the early years of the Community Arts Traveling Exhibit Tours of Southeastern Ohio with his art works. He can be found on Facebook as Ohio Easy and welcomes new friends.

The New Sliver Eagle Band will perform a variety of music, including country, rock, and doo-wop songs. The group consists of six of Ohio Valley's best musicians and vocalists and have opened for several top national music stars. They have played at Wheeling Jamboree, many major fairs, and festivals.

A food stand will be open during the evening and those coming should bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the show will be indoors at the Little Rocks Learning Center (former Grange Hall) on Shamrock Drive. Donations are appreciated. Prizes for the evening are watermelons, courtesy of the concert committee.
