The Watt Center for History and The Arts is offering the following series of art classes.

Calligraphy Beginning and intermediate for ages 12 and up with Calligrapher Sharon Hanse will begin Thursday, March 30, 2017. The fee is $65 for six sessions held each Thursday from 6:30-9 p.m.

Participants will learn the basics of this ancient and incredible art and techniques needed to interpret a wide variety of letter styles. Those who have taken calligraphy previously, will have the opportunity to perfect their lettering and progress into other letter styles. A pastel class with Bob Sako will begin Saturday, April 1, with classes held every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $12 per two hour session. A good drawing is the basis for any other form of painting or pastels. Learn basics techniques to make your paintings better. Check out his web site:

An embossed copper workshop with Sharon Hanse will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee is $35 for ages 12 and up.

Learn the basic techniques for embossing (tooling) images or letters into copper. Using an array of tools, many decorative patterns, words, and names can be applied to the copper. Make plaques; cover light switch covers, garden signs etc. Learn about patinas, and ways to color and add interest to the metals.

A second session will be offered on April 8 to explore brass and aluminum, if there is enough interest. Sign up for either one or both.

Designing greeting cards with Sharon Barkeloo will be held Saturday, May 6 from 1-3:30 pm. The fee is $12 per student (including all supplies) for ages 12 & up.

Four cards will be taught in each session. Birthday cards and general purpose cards will be included. Each session is limited to four students. A second session will be offered at a date to be determined.

An acrylic painting workshop with Judy McKee will be held on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m., The fee is $65.

Professional artist Judy McKee will introduce acrylic painting to beginners, and work with intermediate students also. Students will work on methods to create a landscape painting.
