JWC meeting May 18

Junior Women's Club of Barnesville will be holding their May meeting on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. JWC will be installing new members. Members will have a fun evening of a pizza party with each Committee chair sponsoring a different "Minute to Win It" game. Weyer Chapter OES meets May 12

Weyer Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star will meet Friday evening, May 12 at the Masonic Hall in Centerville at 7:30 p.m. Covered dish dinner to proceed the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Officer are to wear chapter gowns. A 60- year pin will be presented. The stations of secretary and treasurer will be honored. Worthy Matron Martha Heath and Worthy Patron Wallace Malolepzy will be presiding. All members are cordially invited to attend.

Spring craft/car show May 14

The St. Clairsville Department of Park and Recreation is sponsoring a spring craft show on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is located at 102 Fair Avenue next to the Red Devil football stadium.

This year's array of crafters are featuring a little of this and a little of that with rag dolls, wooden lights, outdoor yard ornaments, stuffed bears, candles, baskets, architectural crafts, Native Indian crafts, birdhouses, canes, walking sticks, wreaths, primitives, pit berry crafts, headbands, homemade jewelry, hillbilly crafts, outside benches, trellises, wishing wells, wheel barrels, pretzel sticks and doggy treats and made to order pillows along with other variety of crafts.

There will also be a mini business expo with consultant representatives from Dove Chocolates, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Avon, Premier Jewelry, Mary Kay and Longaberger Baskets.

The Classy Chassis Car Club will also be hosting a car cruise-in along with the recreation center's craft show.

The car cruise will be held from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. on the grassy area next to the playground behind the recreation center. All makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. There is a $3 admission fee for all cruise-in vehicles. There will be dash plaques, 50/50 raffles, door prizes, awards, food and DJ on site during the cruise-in.

Monroe County Chapter OGS meets May 15

The Monroe County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the Monroe County District Library at Route 78 and Home Avenue in Woodsfield.

Kyle Yoho will speak on "Woodsfield Civil War Encampment - To the Colors: A Fight to Preserve Ohio's Civil War Battle Flags." Yoho is a Woodsfield native and a senior at Marietta College . He is a Civil War reenacter and has headed the local 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company B encampment for six years.

Yoho will discuss events to be held in Woodsfield on June 11 and 12, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. This is a joint endeavor of the Woodsfield Civil War Encampment and the Monroe County Historical Society. Events will include a Civil War encampment on the grounds of Parry Museum in Woodsfield and an evening "Illumination Ceremony" at Pioneer Cemetery and the Civil War Monument at the Courthouse.

That week-end will also include a Strawberry Festival to serve as a reminder of the original festivals held by the Soldiers' Aid Society to raise money for the Civil War soldiers. A Regimental Flag made by ladies of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church will also be presented at a ceremony at the church. Batesville High School alumni banquet May 14

The Batesville High School alumni banquet will be held at the United Methodist Church in Batesville on Saturday, May 14 at 4 p.m. Anyone who attended Batesville High School is invited. 'Day With Herbs' May 13 at Ogelbay

Wheeling Civiv Garden Center, Ogelbay Park, will hold its annual 'Day with Herbs' on Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. The 27th Annual Herb Day will include an herbal luncheon, sale of herb plants and a guest speaker. The luncheon will include fresh vegetables and crackers with dips, roast beef on roll, mixed greens and mandarin orange salad, fruit cups and cake. Crafters wanted for May 14 show

Barnesville Alumni Banquet July 9

The Barnesville Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, July 9, at Barnesville High School Cafeteria. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.

Classes of 1931, 1936, 1941, and 1946 will receive letters and reservation information from the Banquet Committee.

Other classes planning to attend as part of their five-year reunions are: 1956, 1961, 1966 and 1971.

The class of 1961 will be celebrating their 50-year class reunion. The class of 1971 will be celebrating their 40th reunion. They are the first class to graduate from the high school on Shamrock Drive.

Early bird swimming passes available

Barnesville swimming pool will be offering "early bird" swimming pass rates until May 13. Family passes will be $100 ($125 normally) and single passes will be $50 ($75 normally). Passes can be purchased at the Water Department office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ohio Toy Soldier Show and Sale May 15

The 19th Annual Ohio Toy Soldier Show & Sale will be held Sunday, May 15, 2011 at The Galaxy Restaurant and Banquet Center in Wadsworth, Ohio. The Show will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be quality toy soldier dealers from around the country with both new and antique toy soldiers and equipment. They will offer metal, plastic and composition soldiers. Something for everyone...beginners to advanced collectors. Fire department fishing tournament May 28

The Barnesville Fire Department will be hosting its 4th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament. Bring your own bait. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. until noon, with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Barnesville Park Lake. All children under 15 years of age are invited to participate.

Group sessions on health and healing

Group sessions on health and healing will be held on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Grange Hall on Shamrock Drive, Barnesville (just after the Barnesville Middle School entrance.)

This on-going group will help participants identify areas of dis-ease in their lives, patterns of unhealthy behaviors and ways to change themselves to become more healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Initially these groups will be facilitated by Sam Hunkler, MD. These sessions are free and open to the public.

WIC walk-in clinic

The Belmont County WIC program will sponsor walk-in clinics on Tuesdays in St. Clairsville and on Wednesdays in Bellaire. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New clients need proof of address, proof of income and identification such as a drivers license or a social security card. Crib cards will be accepted for newborns. Clients who need recertified will need proof of income and their WIC folders. Also, a written authorization from a parent/guardian to have a child receive WIC services is needed if a parent/guardian is not with a child at the time of recertification. Belmont County WIC is having open enrollment the months of November and December. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that encourages breastfeeding and provides education to its clients. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, infants and children up to the age of five qualify. Working families are encouraged to apply.
