Bethesda flow testing begins Nov. 9

Beginning Monday, Nov. 9 and extending through Monday, Nov. 23, the Village of Bethesda will be flow testing and flushing fire hydrants. Residents are urged to be aware of possible low pressure and water discoloration during this period of time.

Spaghetti dinner Nov. 5

A spaghetti dinner will be held at the Friendship Lodge on Nov. 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the lodge at S. Chestnut and Sycamore Streets in Barnesville.

Somerton VFD chili supper and Christmas auction

The Somerton Volunteer Fire Department will host a Chili Supper and Christmas Auction on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the firehouse. Dinner will start at 4 p.m. and the auction starts at 6 p.m.

Christmas Bazaar Nov. 6

A Christmas Bazaar, sponsored by the First Christian's Women's Fellowship will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church. Phone orders are accepted, call 425-2480 to place an order.

DAV NSO assistance available Nov. 16

A Disabled American Veteran National Service Officer will be available to counsel and help with claim filing assistance at the Barnesville VFW Post 2792. He will be there from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. DAV membership is not required. All military veterans are invited. Please bring your claim number, social security number and any other pertinent documentation.

Pennyroyal Opera House show Nov. 6

The Pennyroyal Opera House in Fairview, Ohio will have a bluegrass show on Friday, Nov. 6 featuring Dave Evans & River Bend. Opening the show will be East Run.

The kitchen will be open at 5 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.

The Pennyroyal Opera House is located off I-70 at exit 198.

Centerville Turkey Bingo Nov. 7

The Smith Township Community Center will hold their Annual Fall Turkey Bingo on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Community Center in Centerville (old Centerville School). Twenty games will be played for a turkey. A raffle table will be available and door prizes will be awarded. Each player must have a Master Card. Games bring at 7 p.m.

A food table will be available all evening, opening at 5 p.m. featuring hot sandwiches, noodles, nachos and cheese, along with a variety of desserts and sodas or water.

Belmont County SWCD banquet Nov. 12

The Belmont County Soil & Water Conservation District will be having their 64th Annual Meeting and Banquet on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Union Local High School. Election of officers will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $12.50 for adults, children 7-12 years $6 and children 6 and under are free.

The entertainment will be quartet group One-A-Chord.

The voting for this year's Supervisor will take place before the meeting. If they cannot attend, voters have the opportunity to vote by stopping or calling the District office for information to cast their vote or request an absentee ballot on or before Nov. 12, by 3:30 p.m. A non-resident landowner, firm or corporation must provide an affidavit of eligibility, which includes designation of a voting representative, prior to casting a ballot.

Freeport skin screening Nov. 9

The Freeport Family Health Center located at 110 West Main Street, Freeport, Ohio will offer a free skin screening at the clinic on Nov. 9. If you have any moles, warts or irregular areas on your skin that need evaluated, this is an excellent time to do so. If necessary, a follow-up appointment can be arranged at the Freeport Family Health Center or with a physician of your choice. Charity toy drive begins

Now through Dec. 5, there is a challenge between Barnesville Elementary and Union Local Elementary on collecting toys. The school that collects the most toys will receive a plaque and the top class of each school will receive a pizza party. Toys can be dropped off at Freebird Motoworx in Barnesville or Belmont Savings Bank in Barnesville. Toys can also be picked up by calling (740) 619-0069 or (740) 238-0302. The toys will go to Belmont County Job and Family Services - Children Services.

Salvation Army bell ringers needed

The Salvation Army of Belmont County is now recruiting individuals and/or groups to volunteer to ring bells at their Christmas Kettles throughout Belmont County. Volunteers are needed for The Salvation Army Giving Tree and gift wrapping at the Ohio Valley Mall. Also needed are volunteers to purchase gifts/toys for children for Christmas. Christmas assistance available

The Salvation Army of Belmont County will be taking applications for Christmas assistance at the Bellaire Corps Building at 315 - 37th Street, beginning Nov. 2 through Nov. 6. On Monday and Wednesday the times are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Tuesday and Thursday the time is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Friday the time is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Union Local Jets Girls Basketball Team will be sponsoring their annual Turkey Bingo on Thursday, Nov. 19 in the High School Commons Area. November Watt meeting moved to Nov. 4

The monthly meeting of the Watt Center for History and Arts has been moved ahead one week to Wednesday, Nov. 4. The change was made to accommodate both the regular meeting and a time to set up for the Watt's Winter Wonderland holiday decorations event on Saturday the 7th.

School employee retirees meet

SERO, (School Employee Retirees of Ohio, Inc) will be coming to the Belmont Career Center on November 6 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a retired school employee meeting. The purpose of the meeting will be to inform retired School Employee Retirees on issues pertaining to Pension (funding) Healthcare (future programs) and an update on Social Security Offset and Windfall provisions. A SERO Chapter meeting will take place with opportunity for retired School Employees to ask questions and gather information on issues important for them. Fall Turkey Shoot

A Fall Turkey Shoot plus 22 caliber shoot for kids eight and up will be held at the Wharton's Sportsmen's Club west of Barnesville, Ohio on Nov. 8, 15 and 22 from noon until 5 p.m. A drawing for guns will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The Barnesville Hospital Auxiliary will be sponsoring a book sale on Friday, Nov. 6 from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Classroom.

Moorefield Township VFD craft show

The Moorefield Township Volunteer Fire Department in Piedmont will be sponsoring their annual Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Fire Station at 33030 West Main St. in Piedmont, Ohio 43983. Nursing Moms' Group serves mothers who are, have, and are planning or considering breastfeeding with support and information. Questions are always welcomed which are discussed among experienced mothers and answered by Jean Cooper, co-organizer and Lactation Consultant from East Ohio Regional Hospital.

Public Employee Retirees, Inc. meeting

The Belmont County Chapter 79 of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc. meet on the third Wednesday of every other month at the J.B Martin Recreation Center located at the Belmont County Fairgrounds, St. Clairsville, Ohio.

WIC walk-in clinics

The Belmont County WIC program will sponsor walk-in clinics on Tuesdays in St. Clairsville and on Wednesdays in Bellaire. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Barnesville hours are the second Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ohio Hills Health Services, 110 E. Main St.

New clients need proof of address, proof of income and identification such as a drivers license or a social security card. Crib cards will be accepted for newborns. Clients who need recertified will need proof of income and their WIC folders. Also, a written authorization from a parent/guardian to have a child receive WIC services is needed if a parent/guardian is not with a child at the time of recertification. Belmont County WIC is having open enrollment the months of May and June. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that encourages breastfeeding and provides education to its clients. BBM Rotary meets
