A great destination in Ohio to visit during the summer is the Marblehead Peninsula off the coast of Lake Erie. This coastal area has many tourist attractions, as well as history behind it. Perhaps, the most famous attraction here is the Marblehead lighthouse that overshadows Lake Erie. This state park and lighthouse offers scenic views of Lake Erie, and it is also one of oldest lighthouses on the lake. The Marblehead Peninsula is the site of the final battle of the War of 1812, when the American fleet defeated the British fleet on Lake Erie. From the state park, a ferry runs to Kelly's Island, the largest on the lake.
Another piece of history near by is the Johnson's Island Confederate Cemetery, where there once was a Confederate prisoner of war camp. Right across the bay is Cedar Point, an attraction that everyone enjoys. The Marblehead Peninsula has attractions for everyone!
