Captina Creek Public Watershed Meeting
The Belmont County Soil and Water Conservation District would like to invite the community to an informal public meeting at the Horseshoe Bend Golf Course pavilion on Thursday, July 30th at 6:00 pm. Anyone that is interested in conservation programs, discussing water issues around the Captina Creek, or would like to get involved in the watershed group is welcome to attend. Contact the watershed coordinator, Eric Gibson, at (740) 425-1100 Ext.114 or gibsonswcd@comcast.net for more details.
The watershed coordinator position was recently established through a grant by the Ohio Division of Wildlife to maintain the water quality of Captina Creek. The stream has been a priority for monitoring and research for many organizations like the Columbus Zoo and the Ohio Division of Wildlife because of the excellent water quality and diverse species of fish. Although many organizations study the area, protecting the water quality of streams is accomplished through local actions and involvement. The role of the watershed coordinator is to work with the community and organizations through events and meetings to develop a management plan which will address problems and solutions to protect nearby streams.
