July 8 OD5K to benefit Bethesda K-9 unit

The Bethesda Police Department is proud to partner with Officers Down 5k, an enforcement fundraising organization, to have a 5K Run/Walk with a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, July 8 at Epworth Park in Bethesda during the village's annual Chatauqua Days. Registration is from 8-9:45 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.

Proceeds will help defray costs to train an officer for the new K-9 unit. Earlier this spring, the department was awarded a capital safety grant for a K-9. On Sept. 18, Chief Eric Smith will take possession of the police dog. He said funds are needed for expenses that will be incurred during his five-week training and to purchase a vest for the K-9.

The race organizers are seeking donations for a Chinese auction and corporate and individual sponsors for the race.
