Barnesville native and award-winning poet to return for reading at Olney Friends School

Barnesville native and current Maryland state poet laureate will be giving a poetry reading at on Friday, April 14 at 8 p.m. at Olney Friends School, 61830 Sandy Ridge Rd. in Barnesville.

Born in Barnesville in 1939, Stanley Plumly is a graduate of Wilmington College and Ohio University. He is currently the poet laureate for the state of Maryland and a professor of English and director of the University of Maryland, College Park's creative writing program. Plumly is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including In the Outer Dark (1970), winner of the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Award, and Out-of-the-Body Travel (1978), nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His most recent collection, Against Sunset, was published by W.W.Norton in 2016.
