CUYAHOGA FALLS — A 60-year-old man died after a tree fell on his vehicle while he was driving on Front Street early Friday morning, said Gary Guenther, chief investigator with the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Guenther said an autopsy is expected to be done, but he did not know when. The ME's office is withholding identifying the man, who is believed to be an Akron resident, pending notification of next of kin, said Guenther.
Police said that safety forces responded to Front Street near the Gorge Metro Park in response to a report of the tree falling on the vehicle around 5:50 a.m.
Cuyahoga Falls EMS took the man, the vehicle's sole occupant, to an Akron area hospital with life threatening injuries, police said.
Police Lt. Chad Johnson said it is believed recent storms and high winds were a factor in the tree falling.
